Areeba were given only six weeks to build an intranet to serve a newly formed $12 billion resources powerhouse.

History

OZ Minerals was formed in 2008 following the merger of Zinifex Mining and Oxiana Limited into a $12 Billion AUD mining entity with specialist focus on the Zinc, Copper Lead, Gold and Silver sectors. With Melbourne based group offices, operations extend to remote regions in South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and abroad in Laos, Indonesia and Canada. Listed on the Australian, German and US Stock Exchanges, this `merger of equals' is under intense scrutiny from both shareholder and industry stakeholders alike.

Challenge

With the newly joined entities repositioning themselves in the market and with each other, a rapid shift in priorities and focus hallmarked the early days of the merger. With only six weeks development time, and a brand identity still being finalised, Areeba took on the challenge of integrating two disparate corporate environments using RedDot CMS as the central platform. Zinifex's underlying environment was SAP, with Areeba introducing RedDot CMS to manage its content environment for its Group Office and Corporate Website in 2007. Oxiana's technical environment was based around the widely used Microsoft .NET and SharePoint platform.

Solution

Ongoing consultation with both Zinifex and Oxiana stakeholders was a critical requirement, to ensure continuity and a smooth transition. With RedDot CMS chosen as the central platform due to its platform interoperable interface, Areeba created the `OZmosis' Intranet in 6 weeks. The project combined the best of Areeba's design, usability expertise and RedDot experience in creating a highly usable solution that housed the information between the merged entities. Workflows were built to allow site administration from both businesses and content was sectioned off and arranged in such a manner that it presented a logical arrangement for later reference and retrieval.
