Parks Victoria Intranet 1999

Parks Victoria is the custodian of a diverse estate of significant parks in Victoria and of the recreational management of Port Phillip Bay, Western Port and the Yarra and Maribyrnong rivers. These assets total approximately 17% of the total land area of Victoria. Together they attract over 73 million visits per annum.

Parks Victoria have a geographically challenged workforce, with a significant proportion of staff located in small remote offices, and in the field. They wanted their Intranet to be the vehicle for providing all staff with access to their information systems.

Parks Victoria wanted an Intranet to:

• Have all data centralised in a data warehouse.
• Have centralised documents, staff information, and applications.
• Use web technology to remove the need to install and maintain applications, provide a common interface to users, and decrease training requirements.
• Provide a system that evolves over time to meet the needs of the organisation.

Areeba's Intranet solution for the centralised storage of documents including search, help and web forms and includes four simple, yet effective designs to change with the seasons. The system replaced an Intranet with 15% staff use to a system with over 90% usage and has been in successful operation since 1999. The intranet has been integral as a communication platform for Parks Victoria's staff and been widely accepted and welcomed by staff.

Over the years the Intranet has evolved to house many of the organisation's applications which are able to take advantage of style sheets and common user interface that Areeba developed.
