SEEK Website
SEEK is Australia's most successful online job placement site and have proven that start-ups can still come out and top the established players. Recently floated on the stock market, SEEK is now part of Australia's corporate landscape and a major Internet player in Australia.
Back before their current dominance, Areeba were approached to redesign and revamp the user interface of the site, taking particular attention to the user experience. The interface Areeba designed remained in place for five years until SEEK's stock market listing in 2005.
The objectives of the 2000 redesign were to
- Improve the user interface in a way that gives the user a more personalised service.
- Simplicity of use for all key user interactions.
- Introduce channels concepts for key market segments including SEEK Campus, SEEK Executive and SEEK Volunteer.
- Areeba redesigned the user interface, including the home page, site architecture, search facilities, job display, job application process and the personalised "My SEEK" section. These core user functions of the website remain largely unchanged today and are the essential reasons why job searchers continue to find the SEEK website easier to use than its competitors.
The redesign had a dramatic result in SEEK's online traffic, with the number of users and job postings skyrocketing. From a point in time where competition was strong, SEEK now stands apart as the dominant player in the online job market in Australia. The SEEK website demonstrates the effectiveness of good user interface design and how it can play a part in substantial online success in a competitiveness market.
