The 2009 results for VCAA and VTAC were flagged a huge success in the first two hours of operation with 52,000 successful logins. Over 4% of those logins involved access by a mobile browser.

History

Areeba has been running the VCE Results website for VCAA, the government agency responsible for releasing student subject scores, successfully for the past 5 years. 2009 is the first year that we represent the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), the organisation reponsible for the calculation and distribution of the Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank (ENTER).

Challenge

2009 represented an enormous opportunity to integrate the services of VTAC and VCAA more seamlessly providing an improved user experience for students and overall cost reductions for both agencies. Areeba played a major role in facilitating how the two organisations resolved many of the commercial and technical challenges that arose.

Solution

As well as streamlining and resolving numerous business rules associated with the backend of the system to incorporate the ENTER Results, this year also including the first major revamp of the front-end design of the service since 2005 which including an elegant, updated support for numerous new browsers and the soft-launch of an m-site, which is a website specifically designed for mobile browsers.

Highlights:

  • Integrated service for both VTAC and VCAA representing significant cost savings to both organisations
  • Simplified service for students including single sign-on and shared code base.
  • 4.4% traffic to soft-launched m-site
Like the year 12 students who received their results, Areeba can now relax and reflect on what we achieved and is already looking forward to building on our success for next year, including ongoing opportunities around facilitating cooperative services between VTAC and VCAA, streamlining services for students and continuing our ongoing adaption to changing technology represented in our launch of the m-site.
