VCAA VCE Results
The Victorian Curriculum & Assessment Authority is a State Government agency which reports directly to the Victorian Minister for Education and Training. VCAA’s responsibilities include the co-ordination and continual development of the curriculum for Victoria’s VCE student population, numbering some 145,000+ students. Key areas such as student learning and monitoring of student achievement as well as ongoing curriculum development also form part of the VCAA’s charter.
VCAA approached Areeba to develop and implement a website that would allow students to obtain their VCE/VES Results online. It had to be easy to use and enable timely and accurate delivery of results with a high peak load.
In addition, the website had to support the administrative procedures of VCAA in being able to load, test and display the results, as well as produce statistical data and reports of student behaviour. A link was also required to the separately developed and hosted VTAC website which provided the ENTER results.
The VCAA Results Website has been divided into two sections. The Public section is accessible by students with a valid Student ID and PIN. The Administration section is designed to allow authorised VCAA staff to upload and view statistics
Areeba’s goal was to develop a system that was both stable and secure, allowing students to easily login, view their results and print them.
The underlying technologies used were Microsoft .NET Framework, SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2003 IIS 6.0. Areeba also advised on the hardware setup to include load balanced web servers and a separate database server. The resulting system was developed for an expected load of 20,000 student logins in an hour and was stress tested to a capacity far in excess of this.
